Battle of Marathon

Some people think the most important date for western civilization is the day the Battle of Marathon took place September 2nd, 490 BCE when 11.500 Athenians and citizens of Plataea defeated the larger numbers of the invaded Persian army under Datis and Artaphernes sent by Darius I. Personally I'd vote for August 18, 1920 - Ratification of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote in the U.S.
