...and the evil 'isms!

VOCABULARY:
Sexism, racism, ageism are just three of the evil 'isms.
Doing volunteer work with some women's groups in the U.S. I learned a lot about sexism.
Working as a reporter for the African American American press I learn a lot about racism.
And, as I get older I learn more and more about ageism.
Feminists (people who believe in equality between men and women) believe that the early learning of sexism "paves the way" for the later learning of different kinds of prejudice.
Are you prejudiced?
Do you confront the evil 'isms when you see them?
Stereotying people like...
-- women always....
-- all black people...
-- old people are so...
-- fat people really...
-- ugly people just...
...is really cruel 残酷的!
Stereotyping people is also called: "labeling"
Most people don't like being labeled. It's like being put in a small box - it takes away a person's freedom and individuality - it's an attempt to strip a person of their dignity (尊严 zūnyán) as a human.
So, for good relationships it's probably a good idea to avoid labeling and stereotyping people.
Celebrate diversity! Enjoy the differences between people, don't fear and hate them. Don't put people in boxes.
We all have strengths and weaknesses. Learn to appreciate the good in people and life, and your life will be good and happy. Appreciating what we have is one of the golden keys to happiness!
